Founded in 2013, ISL is led by Mike Ellis and Richard Thompson who oversee a team of dedicated professional consultants both local and expatriate.
The core strength of the ISL team is our diversity of background and depth of experience. Underlying this core strength is strong technical knowledge, hands-on industry experience and a deep understanding of both the construction and legal process.
Mike is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, over 20 of which has been spent on the contracting side. This has afforded him considerable experience in both the presentation and defence of contractual claims, both during negotiations and in formal disputes.
Mike is experienced in Expert roles for Quantum matters in Hong Kong. He has acted as a Independent Quantum Expert in an Arbitration and has provided assistance to Quantum and Planning Experts in respect of both mediation and adjudication. He also has considerable experience of dispute resolution through adjudication under the UK HGCR Act 1996 having been involved in a high-profile case involving six separate adjudications leading to hearings at the TCC and the Court of Appeal.
He has experience with Building, Civil and Process Engineering standard forms of contract, and has worked in England, Scotland, Hong Kong and Macau, as well as acting for and on behalf of Employers, Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Consultant Teams in both Private and Public Sectors alike.
With over 30 years’ in the Construction Industry as a Quantity Surveyor, Richard is recognised for his ability to establish and enforce strong commercial processes in the administration of all major forms of contract.
His experience spans across a diverse range of sectors, including infrastructure work, tunnelling, aviation, transport, energy, as well as commercial high rise and retail.
He has worked throughout the Asia-Pacific region and the United Kingdom but has called Hong Kong home since 1997. Richard brings a wealth of experience to any project or contractual issue he is involved in.
